The following is a note that a Youth Pastor that we keep up with posted on his facebook. Each of these “worthless” kids are the reasons that we all do what we do. They are the reason that Jesus did what He did. Let us never forget that that kid that sits in the back and talks the whole time is probably hurting. Let us never forget to pour the love of the Lord out onto every person we come into contact with NO MATTER WHAT!
This is from Nate Powell from Omaha, NE:
Tonight at youth group, I talked about feeling worthless and how God uses worthless people. I asked my students to text me about a time in their life that they felt worthless. Here were some of the responses ….
When my dad said he didn’t want me anymore.
When my family tells me I will never succeed in life.
When my friend tells me I’m stupid cause I cant pass a test.
When my cousin was in a car accident and paralyzed.
When my parents divorced.
Ever since Jr. High I’ve felt worthless … doubt that will change anytime soon.
When I mess up and could have made better choices.
When I’m in class with a certain teacher.
All the time.
When I was born.
When my x told me how much he loved me and I found out a week later that we was cheating on me.
When that boy promised me everything, and then he threw me away the next day.
About every day lately … related to family and school.
When my friends choose other people over me or when my family blames me or makes up stories about me.
When my friends say I won’t be anything in life.
To be honest, I always feel worthless.
Quite honestly, I was pretty blown away as I read these texts in front of the students. I could have just sat down to weep with them right then. They are so hurting.
I went on to talk about how God uses worthless people, using Hebrews 11:31-12:3 as our operating text. There were plenty of worthless people, just like you and me, who are in the faith hall of fame. God used them in mighty ways. God can use us too. Jesus once became worthless for us, so that we might find our worth in him.
I’m just pretty blown away by tonight.
